The Field Guide Network

Sharing wisdom to build connections

Leaders in ministry with young people serve in a constantly evolving field, now dominated by social media, constant connection and evolving technology. The Field Guide Network Ministry,, is a new online tool to support and develop leaders facing these challenges.

The field guides (mentors) are a curated group of experienced United Methodist youth and young adult ministers. Willing to share their wisdom, primarily through free short-term mentoring relationships with explorers (mentees).

Each field guide is experienced in a particular ministry area, is currently serving in that ministry and is recognized as a skilled mentor. Explorers are leaders of youth and young adult ministries who seek a mentor to improve the life of their ministry.

Anyone can visit as an explorer, search through the field guides, request a mentoring relationship and create a connection for free. Information about how to become a field guide is available on the website.

Young People's Ministries hopes that youth and young adult ministers will find support and development opportunities in the Field Guide Network to help them create and sustain healthy ministries that affect the lives of their young people and their congregations.

Chris Wilterdink is director of young people's ministries development at the General Board of Discipleship in Nashville, Tenn.
