‘Trick or Treat’ for UNICEF

United Methodist children can teach about alternative giving when they ask their neighbors for money rather than candy or other treats on Halloween—and then give away the money they receive.

In 2011, United Methodists participating in "Trick or Treat for UNICEF" raised more than $150,000. Some children do alternative trick-or-treating on Halloween; others participate as part of a church-sponsored event on another evening. The General Board of Church and Society suggests Sunday, Oct. 26—UN Sunday—as a good alternative date.
