How can I help with disaster relief?

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) provides emergency food, shelter and medicine after natural and man-made disasters, provides humanitarian relief to refugees and displaced persons and works to overcome world hunger and poverty. One hundred percent of your tax-deductible gifts go to the emergency response or Advance project that you designate.

Contributions to UMCOR may be sent through a local United Methodist church or by mailing a check to: UMCOR, Room #330, 475 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10115. Be sure to include the Advance number and/or the name of the emergency on the check memo line. For assistance in locating Advance numbers, contact InfoServ. For credit card donations, call 1-800-554-8583.

Some individuals or church groups elect to donate goods to be shipped to disaster areas, where UMCOR operates disaster warehouses. You may call UMCOR Sager Brown at 1-800-554-814-8765 to obtain a list of needed items.

Volunteers are needed after natural disasters to help with clean-up, debris removal, and rebuilding. Call the UMCOR Volunteer Line at 1-800-918-3100 to find out about current volunteer opportunities and to register your interest.

UMCOR conducts disaster response training academies every year. Well trained and prepared local leaders can greatly alleviate the impact of a disaster. For more information on emergency response training, call 1-202-548-4002.
