Give up gas for God
Elkton (Md.) United Methodist Church encourages members to conserve gasoline with a “Give Up Gas for God” Sunday.
The stewardship committee invites members to walk to church or to carpool. This year “Give Up Gas for God” Sunday will be April 22 in conjunction with Earth Day.
During two “Give Up Gas for God” Sundays in 2006, more than 40 people who walked or carpooled to church received awards and recognition during worship.
“The spirit of excitement, fellowship, stewardship and mission was contagious,” said the Rev. Karen Bunnell, senior pastor.
To add to the excitement, Bunnell said this year the church will recognize the car containing the most people from the most different households, the people who walked the furthest to church and those who have participated in all three “Give Up Gas for God” Sundays.
