Members of the boys' high school basketball team at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Easley, S.C., are champions for more than one reason. Momo Larmena lives out his faith as a foster parent and by teaching computer skills to young people in Sacramento, Calif.A chemist when he lived in Liberia, Larmena moved to the United States in 2004 after rebels attacked his home. “When I came to Sacramento, I decided to re-divert my thinking from chemist to humanitarian,” said Larmena, a third-generation United Methodist and the grandson of Liberia’s fourth president, James Spriggs Payne.
