Exercise program includes devotionals, health education
An exercise program offered at Madison Avenue United Methodist Church in Derby, Kan., emphasizes the connection between body, mind and spirit.
The program, called "Faithfully Fit Forever," includes about 40 minutes of exercise with upbeat Christian music, 10 minutes of health education and 10 minutes of devotional time.
Susan Harvey, a physical therapist, leads the class, which was developed by MeritCare Health System of Fargo, N.D.
Harvey attended leader training in 2003 and taught her first class at First United Methodist Church in Winfield, Kan. Since then she has trained more than 100 other leaders of the class in Kansas.
"It's way more than an exercise class," she said. "It becomes a wonderful fellowship."
